I revived a call from a client looking to have a few rooms of carpets cleaned, but he had a challenge for me 1st. He admitted he had a tough stain and wanted me to try to remove the stain 1st, because if I was not able to remove the stain they were going to replace the carpet.

The stain started out as a small plant stain. The client used a hand full of cleaners with no success. Lastly he used Oxy clean. The Oxy clean lightened the plant stain but when the carpet dried the entire area turned yellowish/brown.

After failed attempts to improve the staining he called on a professional.

This stain was a little complex, 1st of all the area was completely rinsed of all products previously used.

I used the correct products to remove the stain.

The rest of the room and other 2 rooms cleaned up like new, saving the clients $100s in re-carpeting.

I can relax knowing our carpet is clean and his

home is healthier.

We often get our carpets cleaned for one reason. And that number one reason is APPEARANCE.  We often wait till the carpet starts showing dirt in the traffic areas, or spots and spills start over whelming us before we consider carpet cleaning.

Well, we wash our cars for the same reason, but we also practice other routine maintenance  with our cars, such as oil changes, filter changes, tire rotations. A well maintained car will last years and 1000′s of miles longer than a poorly maintained car.

So lets look at the maintenance of our carpet. We vacuum it, we spot clean it and we clean it when spot cleaning and vacuuming is not enough.  All of that is great for the appearance of our carpet, but what about the maintenance for the longevity of   of our carpet, and our indoor air quality?

Proper vacuuming is your biggest defense. Use a powerful vacuum, vacuum slowly, concentrate on high traffic areas, use a hose to edge where the carpets tucks under the baseboards. Be sure to vacuum the edges of the stairs treads. Open doors often left closed, like closet doors or spare rooms not often used. These thresholds of these doors are magnets for air filtration soiling.  Maintain the vacuum you use. A full bag, or canister sharply reduces the performance of the vacuum, worn or broken belts can make a vacuum nearly useless.

Be sure to replace your furnace filter often, more often if you also use the circulation fan, or AC in warmer months.

Spot cleaning with mild, low residue spotters are best for spots and spills. Many small spills can be cleaned up with just a damp towel. A small home extraction spot cleaning unit can be a good investment, but use it properly and don’t fall victim to the thinking “more is better” More soap and detergent is not better when spot cleaning. In fact worse.   So use detergents sparingly.

Investments in quality entry mats can greatly reduce soils making inside our homes. just be sure to maintain those mats, they can become impacted with soil and no longer function as designed.

Now for professional carpet cleaning.  Besides proper and frequent vacuuming of your carpet  it is suggested you have your carpets cleaned every 12-18 months.  Professional and proper cleaning of your carpet will remove many things vacuuming just can’t. Vacuuming can not remove buildups of oils, from our bodies, cooking, pets, foot traffic. Proper cleaning will improve your indoor air quality by removing dust, pollen, dander.  A clean carpet smells better, I’m not saying a carpet cleaned with deodorizers, and perfumes scents, just a fresh clean carpet smells better.

Professional cleaning will remove impacted soils clinging to the carpet fibers, abrasive soils that cause wear.

Keep in mind, 12-18 months is a guideline. You extend the time required for lightly used carpets, when properly maintained. But on the flip side, a home with more use, kids, pets, dusty locations etc will require professional cleaning more often.

Areas of the avg. home that often require more frequent cleaning are:  Family rooms, Hallways, Stairs, Dens ( home offices )

Areas of the avg. home that often require cleaning less often are formal living and dining rooms, spare bedrooms rarely or lightly used.

When hiring professional carpet cleaning you are not required to have the whole house cleaned with each visit. Many clients will have the whole house cleaned yearly, then high use areas every 6 months. Ask your cleaning professional what he recommends based on soiling levels for your home.

A proper maintenance plan for your homes carpet will extend the life of your carpet and greatly improve the over all health of your home. Oh yeah, and improve appearance.

All appointments were held regardless of the weather conditions.

Our mail might not have been delivered, our garbage might not have been picked up, but Platinum was out cleaning for those clients that needed it done as scheduled.
